HSINCHU, Taiwan, September 12, 2007 Epicom announced today industries’ smallest RF front-end module, in a 4x4x0.6 mm QFN package, with market leading performance for 802.11a/b/g/n dual band and multi-mode WiFi products. The RF Front-End modules (FEM) employ Epicom’s patented linearized power amplifiers integrated with T/R diversity switch, low noise amplifier, filters, diplexers, power detector, and all biasing and matching circuitry. The modules require practically no external components when used in various embedded or mobile applications that demand the most compact form factor and lowest operating current. These front-end modules are easily adoptable by wireless OEMs, ODMs, and CMs, increasing their end- product yield and reducing cost by providing pre-screened and guaranteed performance. The Taiwan-based company is currently supplying production quantities of its WiFi power amplifier and FEM products to major module and system manufacturers with an accumulated shipment of over 25 million units since launching its first products in late 2004.


“Epicom’s newest FEMs utilize the most advanced design innovations and production- ready MMIC technology that integrate all analog active and passive components in a low cost standard QFN package, measuring only 4mm by 4mm by 0.6mm. This is the smallest footprint FEM for 802.11a/b/g/n applications available on the market,” acclaimed Dr. Yi-Ching Pao, President and CEO of Epicom.


The FM7805 is a reduced-size version of its successful FM7705 predecessor. It is a fully integrated FEM designed for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi applications where low operating current is desired for long battery life and ultra compact size for limited space platforms such as WiFi-enabled handheld PDAs, smart phones, digital cameras, mobile cellular and VoIP phones. The device features a SPDT switch, a receiver path with Rx diplexer and LNA with 3dB NF and 12dB gain, and a dual PA transmit path with 802.11b/g ACPR compliant output power of 20dBm, and 16dBm, respectively, at the antenna port and 15dBm for 802.11a operation with an error vector magnitude (EVM) of less than 3% and 4% for the two bands. The operating current is only 150mA for 802.11b/g applications and 170mA for 802.11a, when biased at single supply voltage of 3.3 volts. 


The device is also suitable for IT-based 802.11a/b/g/n WLAN applications such as card bus, mini-PCI, PCI-Express, USB, SDIO and SPI designs, where performance, yield and size are important.
